Taktsang Paro Taktsang
Best known site in Bhutan and for a good reason

Taktsang is probably the most well known site in Bhutan and for a good reason. This is where Guru rinpoche who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, arrived with his consort Yeshe Tshogyal, who had assumed the form of a tiger to subdue the local demons. Of course for people who are aren't Buddhist it may just seem like a myth, however one need only make the climb to this sacred place before dismissing it at such. No photographic or video image comes close to capturing the special feeling once gets climbing and being around general vicinity of this temple.

Years ago,one would have to start the hike before the small river since there were no vehicular bridge or road on the other side of the river. Only a small pedestrian bridge spanned the river. This meant that one would have to hike for atleast two or three hours across the valley at base just to start begin the steep ascent up the hill. These days however there is vechicular bridge spanning the river the the road leads right the the base of the hill. The initial ascent after you leave your car is quite steep, however the pathway seems well maintainted.
